I would like everyone to join me in welcoming aboard Joe Burroughs as our new information manager. Joe has stepped forward and voluntarily agreed to accept the responsibilities for future publications of our Spot Reports issues and our E-Bulletins as necessary. I am very pleased that Joe has made this decision as is Mitch Paradis. We owe Mitch our gratitude and thanks for a job well done over these many years. He deserves the rest to be provided by Joe.

I’m sure Joe looks forward to hearing from our members and is anxious to enter into the business of MCITTA. Welcome aboard Joe. I’m confident you will do an excellent job. As you all know we were forced to cancel our Gathering in Tampa this year. There were several reasons for that none of which will be addressed here. The results of that move prompted a complete re evaluation of the future of MCITTA. Modified dissolution was considered and after contacting many of the membership, was rejected. It was decided among those contacted to try one more time to have a Gathering. Everyone agreed on a single location. This E-Bulletin is being published to seek a consensus of opinion on that location and the desires of the members to continue with MCITTA as presently organized. It was suggested and agreed that in the year 2011 MCITTA would hold the annual gathering in San Antonio, Texas. No further details are provided at this time. All additional details will be announced in due course. I ask that each and everyone of you whether you intend to actively participate or not, whether or not you intend to attend a G athering to provide some feedback allowing the leadership to make a considered opinion. This is your organization and it is necessary for you to have input in the governing of MCITTA. It will not work without you. I know it is the holiday season but I encourage you all to take a minute or two to let the leadership know your desires. Time becomes of the essence when a Gathering is organized.

We have been asked by Mrs. Karyn Mayes to translate the Japanese script on a captured battle flag. The flag was captured on Guadalcanal by her grandfather. It is covered with approximately 43 different inscriptions. Mrs. Mayes has not yet decided what action she will take once the translation is made but asked MCITTA to do the job so as not to offend family members if family names are mentioned. Her initial plan for the flag is to donate the flag along with our translation to either the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico or the Museum of Carolina Marines being built at Camp LeJune.

I am proud to say two of our members, Fred Grant and Bill Curry, have taken on this responsibility. With these two Marines working their magic I am sure Mrs. Mayes will receive a quality product. She of course will credit MCITTA for the translation regardless. I pass this along to illustrate that our website is being viewed by others and our services are still of value.
